I am a recent graduate from Middlebury College, where I pursued a degree in creative writing, with an emphasis on poetry, while also completing my pre-medical requirements. As both an aspiring physician and writer, I am deeply passionate about integrating narrative practices into clinical settings to influence care of the whole person, not just illness. My experiences in volunteer work, leadership roles, and clinical research have allowed me to explore how uplifting patient narratives can enhance equitable, informed, and human-centered healthcare. Following a profoundly influential year as a research assistant at the Wolfe Lab for pediatric palliative care, I began applying these ideas toward end-of-life care. This area, more than any other, underscores the critical need to prioritize the holistic needs of individuals, beyond just their medical conditions. During my time in palliative care research, I observed both inspiring healthcare workers’ innovative approaches to care alongside the desensitization that can arise from the often emotionally challenging world of medicine. Personally experiencing the numbness, dehumanization, and overtreatment that can occur within end of life care—compounded by a Western culture healthcare system riddled with fear and avoidance of death—motivated me to pursue this Watson project.

 

In my free time, you can find me writing poetry of my own, playing with my insane German Shepherd, Nala, skiing, and sailing. Despite having very little musical talent myself, I am also an avid music fan. Generally, you can find me spending time with friends and family who are the most important people in my life. I consider my two sisters, Mikayla (older) and Talia (younger), my greatest role models and best friends. Additionally, having an ER physician for a father and a social justice warrior as a mother has heavily influenced my career goals, my work ethic, and the tenets of my Watson project.
